Avoid a DUI in 2018 with these 5 tips

It is always a good time to talk about ways you can avoid a DUI. There's always plenty of drinking and partying going on during the year, but you can avoid getting arrested by planning ahead for a ride when you decide to drink alcohol.

There are many ways to prevent drinking and driving. Here's a few to keep in mind.

1. Get a designated driver

The first thing you should do is designate a driver for the evening or outing. Asking someone who doesn't like to drink or who doesn't plan to drink due to medical issues is one option, as these individuals are less likely to drink despite being asked to be a designated driver.

2. Download ride-sharing apps on your phone

When you're intoxicated, it's not always easy to complete tasks. That's why you should download ride-sharing apps like Uber or Lyft on your phone before you go out. Then, they're already set up with your information and payment preferences, so all you have to do is ask for the ride.

3. Opt for alcohol-free drinks

There are plenty of drinks that look and even taste like their alcohol-infused counterparts but that don't have any actual alcohol in them. If you want to participate but don't want to drink, try one of these alternatives instead.

4. Stay the night

If you plan to party hard, plan to stay where you are. Even if it's uncomfortable to house multiple people in your home or you have no other place to sleep than on a pallet on the floor of a friend's home, it's better than getting caught drinking and driving. Staying the night gives you the opportunity to sleep off the alcohol. You can drive home in the morning once you've gotten sober.

5. Use a Breathalyzer

The only way to know if you're under the .08 percent limit at any time is to test yourself. There are many pocket-sized breath testing devices that will let your know if you're too intoxicated to get behind the wheel. Use one, and you won't make the mistake of drinking drunk.

These are five tips to avoid a drunk driving charge. You'll be grateful that you don't have to face the repercussions of a DWI arrest and conviction.
